It would have been very easy for this film to be a big disappointment, and almost impossible for it to live up to expectations, and yet, they pulled it off. By the way, the movie was most assuredly not 2D, most, if not all of the movie was rendered 3D, which gave it a movie-like feeling (which you mentioned) while maintaining the classic look that we've known for 20 years. And I _am_ a hard-core Simpsons fan. :-) Nice spoiler-free review that coincides with my feelings toward the movie.
